एमपी इलेक्शन: सर्वे की कोख से निकली लिस्ट

  Kamal Nath is going out of way to prove he is not anti-Hindu MP Assembly Election Update: 14 October 2023 NK SINGH कमलनाथ के प्लान के मुताबिक काँग्रेस की लिस्ट इस दफा सर्वे-नाथ ने बनाई है। प्रदेश के नेताओं में आम तौर पर सहमति थी कि लिस्ट इस बार सर्वे के आधार पर बनेगी। पर क्या यह महज संयोग है कि यह लिस्ट राहुल गांधी के गेम-प्लान के मुताबिक भी है? वे अपनी पार्टी के क्षत्रपों के कार्टेल को ध्वस्त करना चाहते हैं, जो 10-15 एमएलए के बूते पर प्रदेश की पॉलिटिक्स चलाते हैं। सर्वे की कोख से निकली लिस्ट कमोबेश जीत की संभावना के आधार पर बनी है। एनपी प्रजापति जैसे अपवादों को छोड़कर कोई सप्राइज़ नहीं। बीजेपी की लिस्ट देखते हुए, काँग्रेस इस बार फूँक-फूक कर कदम रख रही थी। भाजपा उम्मीदवारों की पांचों लिस्ट 2018 के मुकाबले काफी बेहतर थी। नाम दिल्ली ने तय किए, प्रदेश के किसी भी नेता के प्रभाव से परे। चयन का आधार गुटबाजी नहीं, जीत की संभावना रही। इसलिए, दोनों तरफ के उम्मीदवारों का लाइन-अप देखकर लगता है, मुकाबला कांटे है। टिकट न मिलने से निराश नेताओं की बगावत का दौर शुरू हो गया है। यह हर चुनाव में होता...

Press: CIA ... From America with love

  NK SINGH For the Indian media, the last month was a CIA month. Provoked by tirade fired against the mighty American espionage agency by all manner and shades of politicians in this country--ranging from Golwalkar to A K Gopalan and from the Prime Minister to the local netas --  almost all the Indian  newspapers and periodicals had something to say on the issue.  The voices were discordant and the attitudes adopted were different. But all agreed on one common point rather no one had the guts to disagree -- i.e., the CIA was active in India. Among the not-so-secret admirers of the CIA, Jammat-e Islami's Radiance , which described the entire episode as "wild charges" and "prime facie absurdity", was the most outspoken on the issue.  Indirectly,  it explained the reason for it's not overtly forthcoming "in defence of the CIA or the Government of the United States"; "the very action of challenging the allegation of Congress leaders will be regard...

Dainik Bhaskar faces Governor's ire

NK SINGH There are various ways to bring the press to heel. Madhya Pradesh Governor M.S. Qureshi made the state Government stop giving its advertisements last month to the Bhaskar group, the largest-selling newspaper chain in the state.  There is no formal order to that effect, but payments totalling Rs.8 lakh for the advertisements published in the group's nine newspapers have also been withheld. Their crime? They carried two news items that did not show the Governor and one of his advisers A.K. Pandya in a good light.   The Government action also includes stopping advertisements to Bhaskar ' s English daily National Mail , which had not even carried the reports. दैनिक भास्कर पर सरकारी प्रकोप

Governor stops ads of Dainik Bhaskar NK SINGH प्रेस को दबाने के कई हथकंडे हैं। मध्य प्रदेश के राज्यपाल मुहम्मद शफी कुरैशी ने पिछले महीने राज्य के एक बड़े समाचार पत्र समूह - दैनिक भास्कर को राज्य सरकार के विज्ञापन देने पर रोक लगा दी। विज्ञापनों पर रोक का कोई औपचारिक आदेश नहीं है, लेकिन समूह के नौ अखबारों में छपे आठ लाख रू. के विज्ञापनों का भुगतान भी स्थगित रखा गया है। उनका जुर्म यही है कि उन्होंने दो ऐसे समाचार छापे थे जिनसे राज्यपाल और उनके एक सलाहकार ए.के. पंड्या की उज्जवल छवि नहीं उभरती थी। सरकार की कार्रवाई में भास्कर समूह के अंग्रेजी दैनिक ‘नेशनल मेल‘ को विज्ञापन देने पर रोक लगाना भी शामिल है, हालांकि इस अखबार ने उन रिपोर्टों को प्रकाशित भी नहीं किया था। भारतीय पत्रकार संघ (आई एफ डव्लू जे) की मध्य प्रदेश  इकाई के संयोजक अलिक वज्मी कहते हैं, ‘‘राज्य में ऐसा षायद पहली बार हुआ है जब सरकार ने किसी अखबार को विज्ञापन देना पूरी तरह बंद कर दिया।‘‘ चार महीने पहले राज्यपाल कुरैशी ने अभी पद संभाला ही था कि दैनिक भास्कर के संस्करणों में यह खबर छपी कि सहकारिता विभाग के एक अ...

Fourth Estate Nai Dunia: Coming of age of Hindi journalism NK SINGH नई दुनिया के बारे में पहली दफा प्रतिपक्ष में अपने वरिष्ठ सहयोगी गिरिधर राठी से सुना। 1973 में वे भोपाल गए थे, मध्यप्रदेश सरकार द्वारा आयेाजित सांस्कृतिक उत्सव में हिस्सेदारी करने। लौटकर दिल्ली आए तो जितना वे अशोक वाजपेयी की आयोजन कला से मुग्ध थे, उससे कहीं ज्यादा इंदौर से छपने वाले एक दैनिक से । न केवल उसकी छपाई एवं साज-सज्जा, बल्कि उसकी संपादकीय पकड़ भी उसे तमाम हिन्दी अखबारों से अलग खड़ा करती थी। नई दुनिया का नियमित पाठक मैं बना 1974 में जब अंगरेजी दैनिक हितवाद में नौकरी करने भोपाल पहुँचा। इंदौर से छपकर आने और देर रात की खबरें कवर न कर पाने के बावजूद नई दुनिया शहर में सबसे ज्यादा बिकने वाला अखबार था। शायद  वहीं से छपने वाले नवभारत से भी ज्यादा। बिहार से ताजा-ताजा आए और अत्यंत अपठनीय आर्यावर्त और प्रदीप तथा बेजान नवभारत टाइम्स और हिन्दुस्तान की खुराक पर पले मुझ जैसे पाठक के लिए नई दुनिया आंखें खोलने वाला अखबार था। पहली दफा लगा कि हिन्दी के अखबार भी अंगरेजी का मुकाबला कर सकते हैें। पत्रिकाओं में दि...

The Press: Sethji Is Watching

NK SINGH True, the Government is trying to make the already willing Press more submissive. But where stands the Sethji in this game of I-obey you-command? He is still very much there, though nowadays he cares only to manage the news that affects him or his cronies directly. For the rest, his class interests depend on the other interests that have ganged up during the last decade or so. After all, the 'other interests', which have easy access to the jute press newsroom, have the same class interest as Sethji. They may have some minor differences but where their class interests tally the contradiction is at best not a basic one, it is rather an inner one that can be solved through negotiation. However, the small newspapers have a different story. There the owner is often the "editor-in-chief" and his near and dear ones 'correspondents' or 'specials'.  In such cases, it is pretty difficult to differentiate between the freedom of the Press and the freedom ...
