Image
  Kamal Nath is going out of way to prove he is not anti-Hindu MP Assembly Election Update: 14 October 2023 NK SINGH

Political fallout of encounter beneficial to BJP

Image
DB Post 6 November 2016 NK SINGH It is not only Digvijaya Singh and Asaduddin Owaisi who suspect that the encounter in which  eight SIMI undertrial terrorists were killed was “fake”. Anyone who has seen or heard those video or audio clips, springing up in social media in a mysterious manner, may deduce that the killings could have been avoided. It establishes that had the police tried a little harder it could have captured alive the fugitives who had escaped from Bhopal central jail after slitting the throat of a guard. But the enraged cops were in no mood to feed more Biryani to these terrorists, who had escaped from jail earlier too and who were accused of murdering several of their colleagues. Faced with uncomfortable questions and damning revelations propping up with regular frequency, the Madhya Pradesh Government has ordered a judicial enquiry in the jailbreak and the encounter. Those attacking the BJP Government in MP on this issue may fe...

Image

Men whom spoils of offices cannot buy

Image
NK SINGH God give us men. A time like this demands Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and ready hands; Men whom the lust of office does not kill; Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy; Men who possess opinions and a will; Men who have honour; men who will not lie; The poem, by Josiah Gilbert Holland, a 19th century journalist and writer, also seeks men who can stand before demagogues. In January 2017 it appeared as a display picture, popularly known as DP, on the WhatsApp profile of Katni SP Gaurav Tiwari. The young police officer was in news recently because he was transferred after his investigation into Rs 500 crore hawala racket threatened to ensnare high and mighty. As a public servant, bound by conduct rules of service, he cannot speak about his unceremonious transfer, his second in six months. But the poem pretty well sums up not only his feelings but also of those honest officers who fulfil their public duty with integrity. As the 34-year-old IPS office...

MP Police Needs More Officers in Field

Image
PHQ Needs Less Officers NK SINGH The year was 1985. Great Britain was reeling under general strikes, mammoth rallies and street protests. United Kingdom seemed to be tottering towards its end. London seemed to be definitely one of the most chaotic places on the earth. I happened to land there during that turbulent period at the invitation of  BBC Television  to write the commentary of a documentary on Bhopal gas disaster that they were producing. It was my first ever trip abroad and within a week I had the misfortune of getting robbed in the Shepherd’s Bush area that also housed the studio where I was working. I lost practically everything. Gone was all the money advanced to me by the  BBC , my travel documents, including my passport. I was in total despair and almost in tears. Where was the nearest police station? I did not know. The Argos store where I was robbed did little to help. Given my experience in India, approaching the police and making roun...

Judge issues warrant for arrest of SP; Police files FIR against Judge for "interference in duty"

Image
NK SINGH Bhopal: An attempt by a judge to protect civil liberty in the obscure tribal district of Jhabua has led to a confrontation between the judiciary and the police. The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Jhabua had issued warrants for the arrests of the SP and the DSP of the district in a case of police brutality. The Jhabua police retaliated by registering a case against the CJM for "causing an interruption in the duty of two constables". The CJM, Mr M. L. Sanghi has applied for anticipatory bail. He has also sought, ironically, police protection following a threatening letter received by him in court. Five policemen are at present guarding his residence at Jhabua. The cold war appears to be escalating into a regular tug-of-war with the Judicial Services Association and Police Association rushing to the aid of their comrades in distress. While the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Services Association has demanded protection for Mr Sanghi, police officers have also taken up cudge...
